Mary Lou Jacobs
Mary Lou grew up in a very musical family—singers, violinists, trumpeters, pianists, organists - through which she came naturally by music! By the age of five she was playing songs she had heard. Although she wanted to take piano lessons, her parents were old fashioned and believed that the age of 7 was the proper time to begin lessons.
Mary Lou loved playing the piano, learning and practicing. Yes! She loved to practice. She studied piano for 10 years and gave a high school graduation recital of classical compositions all from memory. In college Mary Lou studied voice and pipe organ.
Although her major was nursing, throughout Mary Lou's career as a registered nurse and educator she was involved in piano and singing performances. This required consistent practicing for the performances.
Mary Lou began teaching piano midway through her nursing career. When she retired from nursing, she began filling her schedule with piano students. It was only natural that she should shift her emphasis to the early learner, since she was a health and development specialist during a large part of her nursing career.
Having taught early learners in a Montessori Preschool, Mary Lou was enlarging her teaching practice to not only early learners, but to some students who were developmentally delayed. This specialty has spanned 10 years. You could say it is her niche, although she thoroughly enjoys teaching children of all ages.
Mary Lou uses the Alfred Publisher’s curriculum for early learners, "Music for Little Mozarts."
We at Cinco Ranch Conservatory of Music LLC are proud of our association with Mary Lou and look forward to building a wonderful piano program with her assistance!
